Hadrian’s Wall is an ancient Roman fortification built 122AD by the Roman Emperor Hadrian. It is a 117km long stone and turf wall and stretches from the east to west coast of current day UK.

It was about 3 metres wide and 6 metres high east of the River Irthing and 6 metres wide and 3.5 metres tall to the west of the river. There was a ditch dug in front of the wall and Milecastles (small forts made of wood or stone) and turrets were scattered along its length.
